CMHC developed this Manual to help volunteer firefighters and housing managers in the effort to establish and improve fire prevention practices in their Aboriginal communities. Among the many topics discussed in the case studies are candle safety, chimney maintenance, arson prevention, and the beginning and growth of a volunteer firefighting squad.

In addition to the ten case studies, the appendices of this Manual contain checklists and tools that volunteer firefighters and housing managers may find useful in planning fire prevention programs and finding more information about fire prevention in general. (© 2007 CMHC)
