Structure Fire, Norfolk County Administration Building (Simcoe, Norfolk County)
Today at approximately 9:45 am fire fighters from Norfolk County Fire & Rescue Services Station 1 (Simcoe), Station 3 (Waterford) and Station 5 (Delhi) responded to a fire at the Norfolk County Administration Building located at 50 Colborne Street in Simcoe.
“The fire appears to have started on the roof where roofers were doing maintenance work using propane torches.” said Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Friesen. The circumstances of the fire are under investigation. Forty-eight fire fighters attended the scene and controlled the blaze in about one hour; although they remained on scene for several hours checking for extension and hot spots. Fire fighters from Station 2 (Port Dover) covered the empty Simcoe Station for the duration of the fire.
Approximately forty county staff were in the building working at their desks when the fire was discovered. They safely escaped upon activation of the buildings fire alarm system.
The Office of the Fire Marshal will not be attending.
There were no injuries reported.
Damage to the building and contents is significant.
